A History of Fancharacters
Since writers block has once again taken its hold on me, I find myself with a lack of decent things to write about. I have several unfinished stories that I'd very much like to get posted, but alas, it doesn't seem like its going to happen any time soon.
Instead, I've taken to writing random MSTs and pointless drabbles. So, for lack of anything better to write, I am giving you a relatively detailed history on my random DwD fancharacters over the years.
-----------
The early days.
My very first fancharacters were created sometime back in the 90s, and, as I was young at the time and not a very good writer, they left a lot to be desired.
There were five of them and they were basically female versions of the Fearsome Five. If I remember correctly, I called their gang "The Black Roses".
They were;
Anita - Who was dating Negaduck
Ann - Who was dating Megavolt
Adele - Who was dating Quackerjack
Daisy (it had slipped my mind that there was already a Disney duck with that name) - Who was dating Bushroot
Wendy - Who was dating the Liquidator.
I only ever wrote one fanfic with them, titled "The Jade Emerald Caper" and it was prolly the worst thing I've ever written. I believe I still have the original copy of it somewhere.
Anita and Negs had a daughter named Abby, and Adele had a 10 year old daughter named Trixie from a previous relationship. I even drew out floor plans for the house they all lived in together. But that was pretty much the extent of it. I never bothered to really develope them as characters and eventually they faded away as I went on to create better OCs.
Many years later I would go back and take Adele and Trixie off the shelf and attempt to revamp them. I still have artwork somewhere of a teenage Trix. But again, they faded away.
Following the Black Roses, the next OC I created was Anastasia "Ana" Carson, and while I don't use her anymore, shes still one of my favorite OCs. Ana was actually created as the wife of Agent Vladimir Grizzlikoff, and she is a fox, both literally and figuratively. I don't think she was meant to be a supermodel, but in my mind she ended up becoming really attractive. She was a standard red fox (with a huge bushy tail even tho DwD characters never have tails even if they should), long blonde hair, and big brown eyes.
She was also extremely sweet. Friendliest, most caring person you would ever meet. Despite being relatively young (early-mid 30s I think) she just radiated "mother". You look at her and just know shes the type who bakes cookies and attends school PTA meetings. Ana was definitely not the type of girl one would picture ol' Griz with (that is if one could picture him with anyone at all), but I think thats what made them so endearing as a couple in my mind. She was the first OC that I gave any real background to. She was born in Japan to an American navy officer and a young Japanese woman. She moved around the world a lot, before her family settled in St. Canard when she was 16.
She graduated high school and went to college, before deciding on a job at SHUSH. Unfortunately she failed her training and was stuck as a simple secretary for Director Hooter. And of course, this is where she met Griz. At first, Ana and Griz hated each other. He thought she was too bubbly and carefree, and she thought he was an up tight stick in the mud. I can't remember exactly how they got together, but eventually they began a courtship and eventually got married.
Ana was an extremely loyal and supportive wife and the only person that could make Griz cower in fear. She may have been sweet, but she knew when to put her foot down. She was fluent in Japanese (being half Japanese herself) and was a Shinto priestess, running the only Japanese Shinto shrine in St. Canard.
I remember writing a few stories about her and Griz and their two children; A daughter named Alexandra (Alex) and a son named Nicolas (Nicky).
I do believe that Anas personality was inspired in part by Lily Bushroot... (does anyone even remember the old Greenhouse?).
After Ana, I created a very temporary OC that was, by every right, a complete self insertion. I believe I even stated somewhere that the character was ME as I would appear in the DwD universe.
Although, I did make the OC a college graduate and stuff, and I have never gone to college myself. So she wasn't 100% like me, but still. Her name was Jadeen, she was a siamese cat, and she was dating Megavolt. Which is kinda funny when you consider that hes meant to be a rodent of some sort. She was also extremely close to the Grizzlikoffs and often babysat for them.
Jadeen didn't live very long in my world of OCs, and I never did much with her, except write one or two short, pointless stories with her. The amusing thing is, that I had completely forgotten about her when I created Liz, but after finding Jadeens old profile through the internet archive site, their similarities are uncanny. Both are even studying to be journalists. Freaky.
And that brings us to my current OCs: Amy and Liz.
I created Amy first, and if I remember right, she was sort of inspired by a fanfic called "Remembering Alice". I greatly enjoyed the idea of Megavolt having a friend in school, and I thought "I can do that!" Thus, Amy was born.
Shes changed a bit over the years, but shes pretty much just as I originally created her. Except she was originally created as a girlfriend for Megs, but I kinda like them better as just friends. I think their relationship is much cuter that way.
The earliest fanfic I can find featuring Amy is dated 2004, so shes been around for a while, and was my only OC for many years, until I got sick of her being the only girl.
Thats when I made Liz. I have NO idea where the inspiration for her came from. Though after reading Jadeens old profile, its possible it was subconscious thought that created Liz. Its also possible that shes a self insertion, as she does share a lot of my traits, and her name is even a play on my own (My real name is NOT Jade, btw).
The oldest fic I can find with Liz is from 2007, and I spent a great deal of time perfecting her and making her into the person she is now. You'll prolly notice that she features more in my stories than Amy does. The reason being that over the years Amy has become increasingly difficult for me to write. I am trying though.
In terms of relationships, Liz was kind of the opposite of Amy. Whereas Amy was originally meant to be Megavolts girlfriend, but instead became just a friend... Liz was originally meant to be QJs friend, but instead became his girlfriend.
And that is pretty much the extent of my OCs over the years. If you actually read this boring piece of drivel, kudos to you!
